Covens
The Wiccan Alliance manages covens in London and the South East of England. It is also actively involved in building new covens. These covens typically have three key officers, Magister/Maiden who leads the coven's rites, the Summoner who supports the administration of the quarterly sabbats and the Scribe who keeps records for the coven, particularly of attendance. There are four Watchtower Guardians in each coven. These are reponsible for the calling up of the elemental watchtowers. These roles may be shared with the other roles. These members form the 'core coven'. There are eight other places within the coven for members.
The Function of Wiccan Alliance Covens
The purpose of the covens is as follows
1. To facilitate regular Wiccan practice at least four times per year in the South East of England
2. To train members and to assist in their development of their Wiccan practice
3. To issue cords to members joining the Old Horse Wiccan tradition.
4. To facilitate training and practice on Dartmoor.
Old Horse Coven Practice
Old Horse covens associated with the Wiccan Alliance typically perform their rites at or close to the full moon on a quarterly basis. These rite are fully robed in the black and red robes of the Old Horse practice. Officers and Watchtower Guardians are expected to have their own robes. The other coven members may be able to borrow robes from the covens stock of loan robes.
There is a £15 per quarter charge to be a member of a Wiccan Alliance coven. This is not due unless a member is eligible to attend a rite. This is typically on their second attendance at the coven's quarterly training. This is dependent on space being available in a coven.
